Under 18 years old membership 

We welcome and encourage under 18's to join us. Joining us gives young people a chance to do something very different with their lives in learning how to shoot safely and also learning new knowldge about historic rifles. 

Naturally parents will have questions/ concerns about letting there children shoot. Here is some further information that should help you make the right decission for your under 18 year old

We are a Home office registerd Target Rifle club

Our Firearms Licensing Department is Durham Police

We are a National Rifle Assosciation UK Club 

Our club insurance covers your under 18 shooting rifles with us indoors at the Louisa centre and on Ministry of Defence Miltary ranges 

We have fully trained Range Conducting Officers (RCO's) and Club Instructors which will manage the safe operation of the range and provide the NRAUK/legal standard of training for your under 18 year old.

Parents must become a member of the club themselves if their under 18 year old wants to become a member of the club. Normal fees will apply to the parent.

Legalities of shooting under the age of 18

Under 14 years old: Children under 14 may use section 1 firearms (such as full-bore or small-bore rifles) only while target shooting as a memeber or a guest at a Home Office approved club range (Like those affiliated with the NRA UK). At our club they will be one to one supervised by a Range Conducting Officer  or the Club Coach. They cannot and will not be allowed to use firearms unsupervised at any time.

Ages 14 to 17 years old: Young people aged 14 and over can legally hold their own Firearms Certificate (FAC), allowing them to poscess and shoot specific certified firearms under conditions outlined in their FAC issued from their respective Firearms Licensing Department. 

Parental/ Guardian consent must be given in written format with the parent of the child remaining with their child at all times. As mentioned earlier parents must also Join the club if their child wishes to do so.
